Just over three years ago, the shadows of depression and the weight of anxiety consumed my world. Each day became a daunting journey through an emotional sea, where even the simplest tasks seemed like insurmountable challenges. It was during these dark times that I found solace in the beacon of self-development – a commitment that became my guiding light towards healing. Having spent most of my childhood, teenage years, and some of my university years grappling with depression, the prospect of facing those familiar struggles once again terrified me.
The haunting echoes of my past experiences served as a stark reminder of the uphill battle ahead. However, it was precisely this awareness that fuelled my determination to break free from the cyclical patterns that had gripped me for so long. Today, I open up and share my transformative journey, with the hope that my story may serve as a source of inspiration for those navigating similar struggles, providing a testament that even in the face of daunting familiarity, healing is not only possible but achievable with resilience and the right tools.
My WHY:
Recognizing the need for change, I embraced the world of self-development. This transformative journey wasn’t an instant remedy but a commitment to growth and exploration, where I discovered a diverse array of therapeutic tools that would reshape my life.
Motivated by an unwavering love for my husband and children, I embarked on the transformative odyssey of self-development. The desire to break free from the suffocating grip of depression and anxiety was intensified by the profound love I felt for my family. Each step in this journey became not just a personal commitment but a testament to my dedication to creating a brighter future for those I held dearest.
The Darkened Landscape of Depression:
In the grip of depression, the world loses its colour, and every step feels like wading through thick, suffocating fog. The energy to face each day’s demands evaporates, leaving behind an overwhelming sense of hopelessness. Anxiety compounds the struggle, turning routine tasks into Herculean feats, with the constant worry of an impending storm lingering overhead.
A Commitment to Self-Development as the Turning Point:
Amidst the darkness, a flicker of hope emerged – a commitment to self-development. It wasn’t a magic cure but a decision to embark on a deliberate and purposeful journey towards healing. This commitment became my anchor, grounding me in the belief that there was a path forward, even if it seemed obscured at the time.
Incorporating Powerful Tools into the Daily Routine:
The realization that healing required consistent effort led me to build a daily routine enriched with powerful tools. Morning rituals became a sacred space for self-reflection and setting positive intentions for the day. This structured routine provided stability and predictability, essential elements often absent during the tumultuous days of depression. Consistency in this routine became a vital anchor during the turbulent storms of depression and anxiety.
Discovering the Healing Power of Resilience:
Resilience, a quality I discovered within myself, became the driving force behind overcoming the challenges. It wasn’t about avoiding the storms but learning to dance in the rain. Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) Tapping became a potent ally, disrupting the patterns of anxiety and depression.
The rhythmic tapping, coupled with a commitment to face emotions head-on, marked a turning point in my journey.
This revelation sparked a profound shift in my purpose. Recognizing the transformative impact of Emotional Freedom Techniques, I chose to embark on the journey of becoming an EFT Practitioner myself. Witnessing first-hand how this powerful tool unravelled emotional knots and fostered healing in my life, I felt an innate desire to share its potential with the world. My own experiences had unveiled the profound ability of EFT Tapping to catalyse positive change, and I was driven by a deep-seated passion to guide others on their paths toward emotional well-being. Becoming an EFT Practitioner allowed me not only to integrate this impactful tool into my daily life but also to extend a helping hand to those seeking resilience and healing amidst their struggles.
The Transformative Power of Meditation:
Mindfulness meditation emerged as a formidable ally in my journey towards healing. By cultivating a heightened awareness of the present moment, I found a sanctuary where I could observe my thoughts without judgment, fostering a sense of inner calm. Complementing this practice, breathwork exercises provided instant relief during moments of heightened stress. This practice provided not only a reprieve from anxiety but also a platform for self-discovery and inner peace.
Journaling: A Pathway to Insight:
Integrating journaling into my daily routine proved to be a transformative practice for gaining profound insights. Introduced to this therapeutic tool during a three-day workshop with the remarkable Anna Garcia, known for her Relationship Intensive, I learned a unique approach she aptly termed “Vomit Journaling.”
The concept is simple – pouring out everything that weighs on your mind, expressing yourself freely without inhibition. While the notion may sound deceptively easy, the power lies in its ability to provide an unfiltered space for processing emotions. This practice has become one of my cherished tools, offering a cathartic outlet to explore the depths of my thoughts and feelings. Through the process of Vomit Journaling, I not only express my innermost struggles but also gain valuable insights. It has become a dynamic tool to identify patterns, recognize triggers, and joyfully acknowledge the gradual improvements in my journey – an invaluable and tangible record of my progress.
Commitment to Personal Growth:
The commitment to personal growth isn’t a one-time decision; it’s a daily choice. Diving into self-help literature, attending workshops, and seeking guidance from mentors became integral to my growth process. Each experience added depth to my understanding and propelled me further along the path of healing.
Harnessing the Power of Positive Affirmations and Gratitude Practices:
Positive affirmations and gratitude practices emerged as pillars of strength in my journey towards emotional well-being. The simple act of affirming positive statements about oneself can have a profound impact on one’s mindset.
Incorporating positive affirmations into my daily routine provided a counter-narrative to the negative self-talk that often accompanies depression and anxiety.
Repeating affirmations such as “I am resilient,” “I am worthy of love,” and “I am capable of overcoming challenges” gradually rewired my thought patterns, fostering a more positive and empowering outlook on life.
Inspired by the transformative effects of positive affirmations, I extended this practice to involve my children in a nightly ritual. Before bedtime, we gather in front of the mirror, and together, we recite affirmations that uplift and empower each of us. This practice not only instills a sense of confidence and positivity in my children but also fosters a deeper connection as we share these affirmations as a family.
Gratitude practices have proven to be equally impactful, serving as a daily reminder of the abundance and positivity in our lives. In the evenings, my husband and I engage in the ritual of writing down things we are grateful for. This simple act of reflection not only enhances our appreciation for the present moment but also strengthens the bond between us. Sharing our gratitude lists with each other by reading them out loud, further amplifies the positive energy in our home.
Involving my children in gratitude practices has become a treasured family tradition. Before bedtime, I encourage them to express something they are thankful for, fostering a mindset of appreciation and mindfulness. This practice not only cultivates gratitude but also teaches them to recognize the positive aspects of their lives, contributing to their emotional resilience.
The collective impact of positive affirmations and gratitude practices within my family has been nothing short of transformative. As we engage in these rituals together, we create an atmosphere of positivity, love, and appreciation in our home. These practices have not only played a significant role in my personal healing journey but have also become integral to our shared experience as a family, reinforcing the notion that cultivating a positive mindset is a powerful tool for emotional well-being.

Today, I share my story not as a tale of conquered demons but as a testament to the resilience found within us all.
