Reiki, a healing technique that originated in the early 20th century, has gained popularity for its gentle yet potent approach to promoting overall wellness. Understanding Reiki:
Reiki, derived from the Japanese words “rei” (universal) and “ki” (life energy), is a Japanese healing technique that promotes balance within our whole system – body, mind and soul. It was developed by Dr Mikao Usui in the 18th Century, the word Reiki meaning “Universal Life Energy” an energy that flows through all living things.
Although we may try Reiki looking for relief from some physical ailment or emotional issue, we may find that we start to reap the benefits on many levels. Reiki flows through us and helps our bodies to heal themselves in whatever way is best for us at that point in time.
You don’t need to “believe” in Reiki for it to have a positive effect on your wellbeing. In fact, most people are quite sceptical about Reiki when they first see their practitioner. People are often only convinced of its healing effects when they see and feel noticeable results for themselves.
How Reiki is Practised:
Reiki practitioners, known as “Reiki healers” or “Reiki masters,” use a technique called palm healing or hands-on healing to transfer healing energy to their recipients. During a typical Reiki session, the recipient lies down fully clothed, while the practitioner gently places their hands on or near specific energy points on the body. The transfer of energy is believed to remove blockages and restore the natural flow of energy throughout the body.
Distant Healing in Reiki:
One of the most intriguing aspects of Reiki is its ability to transcend physical boundaries. In traditional Reiki sessions, practitioners are physically present with their clients. However, the practice has evolved to include distant healing, where the healing energy is sent across space and time. This concept may seem esoteric, but it aligns with the belief that energy is not bound by the constraints of physical distance.
In distant healing, Reiki practitioners use symbols and intention to connect with the recipient’s energy from afar. This form of healing is especially valuable for individuals who may be unable to attend an in-person session due to geographical constraints, illness, or other reasons.
